Reflection by Ashley Saunders – I feel like it was just yesterday that I decided to go back to school to receive my Master’s. I made the choice to return to school after a year in the workforce and finding the right program was no easy task. I searched high and low for a program that would allow me to receive my degree while working full time. I was also looking for a program that related directly to the field of Marketing. When I found out that Quinnipiac University offered an accredited online program, with a flexible schedule that focused on all of the ins and outs that a marketing professional should know, I was ecstatic. I applied for the program in no time and was thrilled to hear back that I had been accepted for the Fall 2011 semester.
Admittedly, I was nervous going into orientation for the program because I was not sure how an online program worked. As I mingled with people that were also enrolled in online classes and listened to a few presentations by the technology and library professionals, I knew there was nothing to worry about.
Rest assured, I found myself successfully completing classes with little to no need for technical assistance, all the while getting the chance to meet my fellow classmates via social media. The interaction with classmates and professors over social media has been a great experience. I have learned how to use new forms of technology, like Adobe Connect and Google Hangout, and was given the ability to brush up on the skills that I already had.
During my two years in Quinnipiac’s Master of Science in Interactive Media program, I have learned a great amount. I took personal lessons, academic materials, and endless knowledge away from every class. The classes that I enjoyed most were the ones that were the greatest challenge. These classes included Interactive Animation, Advanced User Centered Design, Project Planning and Internet Ethics and Policy to name a few. In each of these classes I learned skills that I previously had not had, and was challenged to think outside of the box. Additionally, I was asked to step outside of my comfort zone and interact with classmates, community members, and coworkers on another level in these classes. From each of these classes, I took away skills that will help me in my current career, as well as any future endeavors I choose.
The Interactive Media program at Quinnipiac is one that I would recommend to anyone interested in diving deeper into the world of marketing. The skills and knowledge gained from this program are insurmountable. Thanks so the Master of Science in Interactive Media program, I am able to read and write HTML and CSS coding, edit audio and video files, create meaningful graphics, confidently use social media, correct website navigation, create solid buyer personas, act as a project planner, appropriately interact with peers, and effectively write for an online audience.
The completion of this program means the start of a new chapter in my life and I look to the future knowing that I am prepared for a truly in-depth career in Marketing thanks to all that I learned about myself and Interactive Media from the faculty, as well as my peers, at Quinnipiac University.
