The OEP/YNHHS-CHS Interaction Designer reports to the Manager, Background Check Program of the OEP/YNHHS-CHS and works under his/her immediate direction. The OEP/YNHHS-CHS Interaction Designer works closely with OEP/YNHHS-CHS Project Specialists and Web Application Developers, as well as external project contractors engaged to support application development work, such as the Background Check Program development. In addition, the OEP/YNHHS-CHS Interaction Designer will work closely with designated client representatives during the application development process.
Interacts with project team and governmental and nongovernmental clients and partners in a manner that promotes project team effectiveness and performance.
This position is coterminous with grant funding and other revenues.
Responsibilities include but not limited to:
Design and develop user experience workflow, user interface and visual elements for web applications, such as the Background Check Program.
Bring strong creative, conceptual and problem-solving skills to translate ideas (business needs and user goals) into interaction and design solutions with a strong, clean visual design.
Manage design practices, particularly as they apply to the implementation of standards for interaction, accessibility, color, typography, graphics and all other visual/interactive expressions of the user experience.
Develop visual mockups, interaction diagrams, storyboards or screen flows, graphic assets, wireframes and prototypes.
Effectively present user interface deliverables (wireframes, workflows, prototypes, etc.) to explain and negotiate design solutions to key stakeholders.
Understand the balance of user experience, business needs, technically feasibility and time-to-market, and recommend tradeoffs where appropriate.
Keep informed of new technologies, interaction design trends and accepted practices in web development, usability, accessibility and design.
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in human-computer interaction, interaction design, human factors, information architecture, information design or other relevant area required.
A minimum of 3 -5 years experience with both interaction and visual design, preferably within business environments. Programming experience is helpful, but not required. Candidate should be able to provide a portfolio that demonstrates exceptional interaction design skills. Demonstrated ability to translate complex user needs into simple, elegant designs. Experience creating and/or modifying user experience specifications to final visual design. Experience using a customer-centered design process to influence design decisions.
Well-organized with strong written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to handle multiple tasks/projects simultaneously across multiple teams are essential. English proficiency is required. Knowledge of multiple health care settings is preferred. The successful candidate will be a motivated self-starter with excellent problem-solving skills who enjoys working in a fast-paced, success-driven environment; demonstrates resourcefulness in adapting to sudden changes; recognizes and promptly advises supervisors of important project, budget and customer service issues. A demonstrated ability to meet program implementation schedules and develop effective recommendations to address potential risks to successful project completion is important.
Must have strong web design skills and a good level of proficiency with W3C-compliant HTML, XHTML, CSS, as well as cross-browser compatibility, primarily with Microsoft Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Safari, and Opera. Knowledge of AJAX and Web 2.0 design patterns a plus. Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, Photoshop and/or Dreamweaver also required. Expert knowledge of and practical experience applying Section 508 standards and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines required.
Some weekend work and shift flexibility may be required to meet client and project expectations. Some travel may also be required.
